Current Events at North Shore

Jerusalem Marketplace, the Holy Land Adventure... NSBC’s children will get the chance to see, smell, touch, and taste the stories of Jesus during Vacation Bible School, August 4-8 from 6:30 pm—8:30 pm.  Jerusalem Marketplace recreates for children daily life during New Testament times.  Mark your calendars, your kids won’t want to miss this.  We need volunteers!!  If you can supervise a group of children, or guide kids in experiencing sewing, carpentry, weaving, pottery, etc, or prepare snacks or lead games, please speak to Agnes Palmejar-Takaki.  Also, there is a website set up where you can find more information and register to attend.  Click here to see our VBS page!

The North Shore Baptist Summer picnic will be July 27 beginning at 12:00 noon.  If you are planning to come, please bring your own chairs and a side dish or dessert to share.  The main dishes will be provided by the church.  It is going to be a lot of fun with outdoor games and fellowship. Don’t forget to mark it on your calendar!  The picnic will be held at: North Park Village, Peterson Park (5801 N Pulaski).  The bus will be available for those who cannot get there otherwise.  More information coming soon!

Assistance for our Karen friends:  Over the past months, NSBC has helped to meet the needs of 25+ Karen families.  We expect another large group to show up in the next few months.  We have a couple of ways that you can help us meet their continuing needs.  Click here for a list in English, and here for a list in Spanish.

One of our Karen friends was recently featured in a Chicago Tribune article.  Click here to find out more about our very own Poe Clee!

Many at North Shore were especially attentive to the recent news about the repressive military regime that rules Myanmar ( Burma ) because refugees from Burma are now a part of our congregation.  Follow this link to a video clip that shows a glimpse of the repression and violence directed against the Karen people, the ethnic group arriving among us as refugees, who remain in Burma .  Viewer discretion is advised.  Mahn Sha, the Karen National Union Leader, was assassinated on February 14th in Thailand.
